• This is the third largest desert in the world.

Location

• It is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the Atlas Mountains, the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, and the Sahel, and includes Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Mortinia, Niger, Chad, and Sudan.

About the land

• Some of the water bodies in the Sahara Desert are inhabited, while all other areas are uninhabited.
• At various ages in the distant past, this desert has become the largest desert in the world, changing its size from time to time.
• After the last snowfall, the desert became lush with vegetation and eventually became barren again.
• The Sahara Desert is reported to be the hottest place in the world, but it is not the driest place in the world. (The driest place in the world is the Atacama Desert in South America.)
• About 25% of the Sahara desert is made up of sand dunes and sand dunes, with all other areas covered by ridges, rocky outcrops and wetlands.
