Inland Taipan
- Scientific Name :- Oxyuranus microlepidotus
- Habitat :- Central and Eastern Australia west
- South west of Queensland,
- West of New South Wales,
- North east tip of South Australia,
- North to south east
- Habitat :- Dry plains and open plains
- Length :- Adults The average is about 2 meters and the maximum is about 2.7 meters.
- Weight :- Between 1 to 2 kg
- Life span :- 10 to 15 years
- Maximum speed :- About 5 miles per hour.
- Predators :- King Brown Snake (Mulga Snake), Parent Monitor Lizard
- Females lay about 12 to 24 eggs at a time.
Body Characteristics
- The body is dark brown or light brown.
- The lower abdomen is yellow.
- A pattern of black dots is scattered throughout the body.
- The face is somewhat black.
Foods
- Only eat the mammals.
- Specially rat species (plague rats - Rattus villosissimus)
Toxicity Information
- Contains between 40 and 45 mg of venom.
- A single bite can kill up to 250,000 rats.
- Able to kill around 100 people on average.
- The maximum was reported to be around 289 people.
- In 1955, an antidote was created for their venom.
- No deaths have been reported since the development of the antidote.
