Inland Taipan 








  • Scientific Name :- Oxyuranus microlepidotus
  • Habitat :- Central and Eastern Australia west 

  • South west of Queensland,
  • West of New South Wales, 
  • North east tip of South Australia, 
  • North to south east 

  • Habitat :- Dry plains and open plains 
  • Length :- Adults The average is about 2 meters and the maximum is about 2.7 meters. 
  • Weight :- Between 1 to 2 kg
  • Life span :- 10 to 15 years 
  • Maximum speed :- About 5 miles per hour. 
  • Predators :- King Brown Snake (Mulga Snake), Parent Monitor Lizard 
  • Females lay about 12 to 24 eggs at a time. 


Body Characteristics 

  • The body is dark brown or light brown. 
  • The lower abdomen is yellow. 
  • A pattern of black dots is scattered throughout the body. 
  • The face is somewhat black. 

Foods

  • Only eat the mammals. 
  • Specially rat species (plague rats - Rattus villosissimus) 

Toxicity Information 

  • Contains between 40 and 45 mg of venom. 
  • A single bite can kill up to 250,000 rats. 
  • Able to kill around 100 people on average. 

  • The maximum was reported to be around 289 people. 

  • In 1955, an antidote was created for their venom.
  • No deaths have been reported since the development of the antidote.
